Lou Fiori is a retired building inspector who worked for the county of Monterey from 1989 to 2018. From 1985 to 1989 he was the superintendent of public works and building inspector, jack of all trades, for the city of San Juan Bautista. He was a journey man plumber, local 393, and worked as a certified welder for food machinery corporation, ordinance division, fabricating APC’s. He served in the United States navy from 1967 to 1971, training at San Diego, Coronado and Cape Horn. 1968 to 1969 he was initially assigned to NSA Danang at the old French Army Camp (Camp Tien Sha) at the foot of the Monkey Mountain, on the Tien Sha Peninsula. He completed the majority of his tour in the Republic of Vietnam stationed at S.C.R.F., small craft repair facility, where he was assigned to the ‘black hat gang’ ship fitter crew aboard AFDL’s 22 and 23; a tonnage record for boats docked in and out in one month, was set in 1969 with 68 boats docked in and out with all repairs completed for which they earned the Navy Unit commendation.
